breastcancer.org (www.breastcancer.org) is a non-profit organization dedicated to making sense of complex medical information for people affected by breast cancer. It is the world's most visited breast cancer Website, and is widely recognized as the most complete, accurate, and up-to-date source of breast cancer information on the Internet. It recently won top honors in the 2005 Strategic Healthcare Awards—for the third year in a row.
Foraker Design worked closely with breastcancer.org to develop the current site architecture and design, and continues to provide ongoing support to keep the site fresh and easy to use as new content areas and programs are added.
Foraker continues to provide all manner of technical support to this important national organization, including web design and database programming services, hosting and other back end support, advice on technology decisions, search engine optimization, and the development of new interactive features.
One such interactive feature is the Celebrity Talking Dictionary—which features the cast of Frasier, the TODAY Show, Whoopi Goldberg, and many other celebrities who have generously lent their voices to this project. Utilizing a combination of HTML and Macromedia Flash to provide audio pronunciations and definitions, the Celebrity Talking Dictionary is designed to help women gain a working knowledge of the complex terminology associated with breast cancer—making it more likely that they will ask important questions of their medical team. Foraker played a key role in the collaborative design of the Dictionary's user interface, and developed and implemented the content management system and database for this project.
