Bombora from the Gonzo Consortium brings NOAA ocean condition data directly to the iPhone in an easy-to-use interface.

Founded by surf and ocean enthusiasts, The Gonzo Consortium wanted a better way to “see” current beach information, anywhere and anytime. Bombora, named for an Aboriginal word for reef, was designed to fill this need.

With Bombora, Foraker Labs brought in data from multiple sources to give the user the most complete picture of current conditions. By making use of the iPhone’s powerful location services, the app can receive real-time data from nearby ocean buoys. Colorful charts combined with subtle animations provide advanced users with the historical perspective they crave.

Bombora communicates with a custom Ruby on Rails based Web service that extracts and transforms the NOAA buoy data into user-friendly visuals.

Foraker Labs developed the application for iPhone running Apple’s iOS operating system.
