Project Overview

Founded in 2001, Cancer and Careers came to us as a growing non-profit, with the goal of taking their organization to the next level. Their objective was to completely transform their existing website into a unified and professional online community.

The Cancer and Careers site features a considerable wealth of unique and informative content as well as several custom community applications. Cancer and Careers staff needed a powerful and user-friendly CMS that was fully integrated with their many applications.

Their new site is built using a custom Ruby on Rails CMS using MongoDB for storage. The CMS allows for streamlined management and editing, with a heavy focus on usability, intuitive templates, adherence to web standards and full cross-browser compatibility.

The site also features several community applications including a custom “Ask a Career Coach” discussion forum, a “Collective Diary” community application, a sortable Resource Database, a Blog and a Publications ordering system. All of these are tightly integrated with the core CMS, and allow for intuitive management by Cancer and Careers staff and affiliate Career Coaches.

Cancer and Careers continues to grow their organization and online reach by adding new features and management capabilities. Tightly-managed source control, and full automated test coverage combined with a continuous integration environment make this ongoing work seamless and efficient.
