Project Overview

The National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) needed a web app. And they needed it fast (8 weeks). Spreadsheets, faxed-in forms, and a hodge-podge of off-the-shelf software made sense in the early days of this non-profit. But staffing costs, inefficiencies, and risks were mounting, and continued growth was becoming unmanageable.

Foraker worked with NICA stakeholders on-site in our offices to understand the organization’s most critical needs, distill that vision into user stories, and then crank out the highest-priority functionality on-time and on-budget.

The new “Pit Zone” software allows High School mountain bike racing leagues in three states to manage races, teams, coaches, riders, race results, and more. It processes credit card payments for registration and tracks various licensure requirements.

Best of all, the system’s clean, elegant design makes it easy to use for all user audiences.

It’s built in Ruby on Rails, hosted at Heroku, versioned in GitHub, and processes payments through Authorize.net.

Because NICA is growing rapidly and adding leagues across the country, work continues. Tightly-managed source control, disciplined branching, and a continuous integration environment make this ongoing work seamless and efficient.
