Project Overview

The Vine from Grapevine Technologies is a “walled garden” private social network. Similar to open social networks like Facebook, The Vine encourages engagement, interaction, and friendship within small organizations like churches, clubs, and societies. As the customer base for The Vine expanded, Grapevine sought to extend their social network to mobile devices—specifically the iPhone.

Grapevine came to Foraker Labs looking to design and build an iPhone app that would integrate seamlessly with the existing web application. Foraker designed the app around the web application’s existing functionality, and worked closely with Grapevine staff to develop a rich API. Along with the ability to check up on a friend’s activities, the app also allows users to post status updates and photos, “like” other users’ posts, and leave comments — a full social experience in their pocket.

By focusing on fast load times, efficient battery use, and a compelling but understandable visual design, The Vine for iPhone is an excellent citizen in the app ecosystem.
