Foraker Hosts World Usability Day Open House at University of Colorado at Boulder on Thursday, November 12, 2009
(Boulder, CO) November 5, 2009—On Thursday, November 12, 2009, Foraker, a Boulder, Colorado-based custom web development and design firm, hosted an open house in the Engineering Center at the University of Colorado at Boulder, followed by a reception at the Foraker offices.
World Usability Day was founded to ensure that services and products are easier to access and simpler to use. World Usability Day is celebrated around the world on the second Thursday in November and features a new and specific focus each year. This year's focus is "Designing for a Sustainable World".
Foraker Vice President Derek Olson facilitated the event. Local snowsports manufacturers and software professionals discussed ergonomics, usability, and sustainability. Panelists included a 25 year snowboard industry veteran, as well as folks at Donek Snowboards, IBM, Fortitude Skis, Rally Software, and Foraker. The event began on the CU campus with discussions and demonstrations, and then adjourned to Foraker's offices for appetizers, drinks, office tours, and conversation.
The event received a solid turnout and featured presentations by John Milanski, Human Factors / Usability Engineer at IBM, Nicholas Whittemore, CEO of Fortitude Skis, Katrina Lindholm, Senior User Experience Designer at Rally Software, Sean Martin, CEO of Donek Snowboards and Bryan Balkenbush, Communications Director at Donek Snowboards.
