Serenity Knolls (www.serenityknolls.com) is a residential chemical dependency program located in the serene, pine-covered hills of Forest Knolls, California. The gifted staff at Serenity Knolls works closely with guests to overcome addiction and substance abuse.

Serenity Knolls was looking for a Website that was as beautiful as the hills of Marin County, yet as sophisticated and professional as the staff and care available at their facility.

After acquiring a thorough understanding of the client's wishes and expectations, Foraker set about the task of developing a website that would convey the tranquility and hope offered by Serenity Knolls to those battling addiction. The color scheme was chosen to invoke a feeling of calm renewal, and the soft images and typography provide visitors with a feeling of warmth and comfort.

As with all of Foraker's Web projects, the completed site is valid HTML 4.01-transitional code—making it widely supported on a variety of operating systems and browsers. Foraker's emphasis on usability ensures that the site is a pleasure to browse even for those who may not be experienced Internet users. Foraker's expertise in accessibility standards ensures that the new site renders well via assistive technologies like screen readers, and offers users a variety of display choices from within their browser.

In addition to the search engine ranking boost provided by a usable, accessible site, Foraker always builds in other search engine performance enhancements. These include hand-coding pages to reduce "Junk Code" introduced by programs such as Dream Weaver and FrontPage, the use of widely-supported Cascading Style Sheets for layout and design, and individually preparing each page for proper indexing by search engine robots.
