New Foraker Labs office
Last week we started working from our new office space on the east end of Walnut Street in Boulder, Colorado. Our new space is next to the Boulder Creek Path, surrounded by lots of green trees, and close to lots of restaurants and breweries. Yee haw!
When designing and searching for our space we had the following objectives:
- Bring our teams together: our previous office was actually three separate offices on the same floor so we had many doors between our teams and this hampered communication. Our new office is a single space with lots of glass so we can easily communicate with other teammates.
- Workstations convenient for pairing: we are pair programming more and more since we’ve found this to be a highly effective way to solve tough problems. As such we made sure all workstation desks were straight so two developers can sit side-by-side and work together.
- Community and privacy: having a community space is critical to working together as a team but we also planned for privacy so colleagues can go into “cave mode” if necessary. To this end, we have lots of breakout rooms that can be used as small conference rooms or taken over by a developer or designer who needs more privacy.
- Outdoor options: we’re in Boulder after all so many of our colleagues like to run, rollerblade and bike. With the Creek Path right out the front door we have lots of options. And, with showers in the building we can clean up before our next pairing session.
- Dining options: we are closer to downtown and very close to the 29th Street Mall so we have lots and lots of dining options. When happy hour rolls around Twisted Pine Brewery is just down the road.
- Room to grow: we’ve been growing for over 10 years now and we wanted to make sure that we had room to grow going forward. We planned in extra offices and workstations so we could continue growing without feeling pinched.
We look forward to welcoming you to our new space. We’ll have an open house in the next couple of months once we are fully settled in but please stop by any time to take a look around and say hi!
